Block Advisors Tax Pro Joins IRS Advisory Council, Recognized for Leadership and Expertise

Kris Thiessen tapped to join IRSAC and engage in strategic discussions on key tax administration issues over the next three years.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Feb. 17, 2025) – H&R Block, Inc. (NYSE: HRB), a leading provider of global tax preparation, financial products, and small business solutions, today announced the appointment of Kris Thiessen, Senior Small Business Partner at Block Advisors by H&R Block, to the Internal Revenue Service Advisory Council (IRSAC) for a three-year term beginning in 2025. Thiessen follows in the footsteps of Alison Flores, Manager with The Tax Institute at H&R Block, who served on IRSAC starting in 2022.
The IRSAC, established in 1953, serves as a public forum for IRS officials and public representatives to discuss tax administration issues. The Council provides valuable feedback and recommendations to the IRS and agency leaders.

Thiessen has over 15 years of experience at Block Advisors, where he also serves on the Small Business Advisory Council. In 2023, he was recognized with the Henry W. Bloch Excellence in Client Service Award. Thiessen is also an Enrolled Agent and holds Block Advisors’ proprietary Advanced Small Business Certified Tax Pro credentials.

Thiessen holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Harvard University and a Master of Science in Taxation from Baruch College. His extensive experience and dedication to serving small businesses make him a valuable addition to the council.
